local facilities & attractions
When we first came to Brittany, we loved its tranquillity and feeling of space. And as we began to visit its towns, villages and beaches, we realised what a very special part of France Brittany is.
Our holiday cottages are surrounded by beautiful woodland walks, open farmland and country lanes, which are ideally suited to cycling and walking. But sometimes when you would like to venture further afield, below we have a few suggestions of places to visit whilst staying in Brittany.
The medieval town of Pontivy is about 20 minutes away. Situated on the banks of the river Blavet, the 15th century castle sits at the heart of the old town, and contrasts with the newer part of the town which was designed by Napoleon. Pontivy has a wide range of shops and restaurants - in short it has something for everyone.
The Lac De Guerledan is a large, clean freshwater lake, approx 25 mins away. There is a man made, sandy beach, making it ideal for families. Pedaloes, canoes, rowing boats and powerboats can all be hired. There are several restaurants, and cafes all overlooking the lake.
Carnac means 'the place of a pile of stones' There are around 3,800 large stones all neatly arranged in rows at various sights. These Alignement stones are a sight to be seen whilst in Brittany. As well as the stones, Carnac is a sea side resort with superb sandy beaches.
Guidel Beach, is a stunning sandy beach just west of Lorient. The beach itself stretches for several km, and has everything from rock pools, to parts where it is safe to surf. Something literally for all the family.
